Land Down Under Post 1
I’ve been here in the land down under for three days now, and I cannot even believe how beautiful it is. A lot of the same stuff, just everything a bit magnified. It’s hot and the sun is much harsher. The lowest SPF you can find is 50. The green is greener and there is a whole lot more of it. And the animals are more colorful and much more poisonous. And with the people I’ve met so far, they talk SO MUCH COOLER. I know that’s a preference thing, but I have never met a foreigner that’s genuinely as excited to hear my American accent as I am to hear an Australian or English one.
We've been doing some orientation for these first few days before we dive into our discipleship training. We're going to be getting 8 years worth of sermons in only 8 weeks, which sounds pretty daunting but I'm so excited. The values of YWAM are so intriguing, and I love that it's becoming so prevalent with young people. Like imagine with how widespread YWAM are getting, how impactful these next few generations could be for the Kingdom of God. Not only are we getting to truly get to know God on a personal level, but we're being equipped to help others do the same. Obviously you don't have to go to YWAM to do that, but it definitely is a cool experience to get you on that path.
So if you're curious about what my living situations are, I'll try my best to describe it as best I could. We're at the edge of the city of Toowoomba at the end of a mountain, so we can see all of the city. It's so incredible. And the entire base is like a large treehouse. Lots of trees all around and green growing all over. There's our lecture hall, then up the stairs is our dining hall with the kitchen. Then there are log cabins with tin roofs that people live in and that the main office and recording studio is in. Go a little farther and you hit the main girls' house, called "The Palace." We have a common area with a kitchenette and there are four rooms with a bathroom in each. I have three roommates with two bunk beds. It's honestly perfect. It's just like a dorm quite honestly.
We get to go into town whenever we have free time and I hear it has amazing coffee and street art. I'll have to see for myself soon. I'll write more when it really begins!!
Cute!!
